Have you ever looked ahead to something you wanted to accomplish?

Did it seem to be too big and far away for comprehension? “How on earth am I going to reach the finish line?”

Can you look back on a specific memory you thought the same way about?

Do you sit back in amazement that it’s been that long ago since it happened?

Why does the concept of time move from one extreme to the other based on where you’re looking?

Did you know focusing on the past or the future is a distraction from life itself?

The definition of Living, let’s take a look at it; Living ~ to be, be alive, have life; continue in life; to experience(verb)

I see nowhere in that definition where it says to think back, or ahead. The word that pops out for me is “Experience.” Now let’s look at that (action)definition the above was referring to; Experience ~ to encounter, or undergo.

How do I know if I’m living in the present and not in the past or the future? I am able to use any or all of my five bodily senses;

sight – taste – hear – smell – touch.

If I ever feel overwhelmed with any part of my life, I ask myself; “Can I touch it, smell it, taste it, hear it or see it?” This is by far the best indicator where I’m living and how I’m spending my time. One of the best books I’ve ever read is entitled The Power of Now by Eckart Tolle

This quote captures in a few words, what I’ve been typing for 20 minutes about;

“The only thing that is ultimately real about your journey is the step that you are now taking at this moment. That’s all there ever is.”

I am not the book reader my mom was or my brother is, but if I had to recommend two books I’ve read enthusiastically from cover to cover, this would be one, and The Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer would be the other.

The Bible specifically teaches us how we should be spending our time; Matthew 6:34 ~ “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

God is alive and with us in this moment, this day. He tells us to be present with Him, where His grace and mercy are available without limit. It is our choice where we choose to spend our time, however if we aren’t paying attention, we might miss the incredible gifts He is pouring out to us now.

Won’t you give Him your past and future, and sit with Him in your only true reality….this moment? He’s waiting.
